First Appointments

Today was a day of appointments, first a quick checkup at the pediatrician. The Dr wanted to see Cole early to make sure he was doing well. Most babies don't visit until 2 weeks, but since his white blood cells had been elevated at birth we needed to bring him in early. His blood count was normal on Monday, and he has been acting like a newborn all week. He weighed in at 7lbs 10oz, just 2 oz less than his birth weight. Two days ago he was at 7lbs 3oz, so he's obviously eating well. We'll need to go back for his two week checkup per normal. I think he'll probably get some shots with the next visit.

The second appointment was at the OB, for the circumcision. The wouldn't let Amy back to witness the event, so I went back with Cole. By the way, they would have done the procedure without either of us. I just want to say that witnessing a circumcision is not fun. I felt so bad for our little guy. The doctor said that it will look gross for a while and he'll scream everytime we change his diaper for a while. At least he won't remember the experience later on.

We're all doing pretty good and Cole really knows who mom and dad are. It feels so good that he already knows who's going to protect him. The last few days have been a big learning experience for us all, and it's been nice to be able to spend time alone with our son. We look forward now to visits from Amy's parents this weekend and my parents in October. I can't wait to show of my boy!
